Englisch der Rechtswissenschaften - English for Law - UNIcert III/1
Prerequisite: At least 70 points on the English Placement Test or completion of EAP II/2
During this course you will learn about important principles of the law of England and Wales and make comparisons with German law. We will discuss topical issues related to law. You will also develop important language skills for use in a legal setting. For example, how to explain German law to an English speaker in an email or at a meeting.
The course is interactive, which means that you are encouraged to take an active part in discussion of the various topics and exchange and present ideas. The course will be largely conducted in English and you will be expected to engage with other members of the class and the teacher in English.
Oral, written and reading skills will be assessed during the course.
All course materials are provided by the teacher.
This course will be conducted on-line. Zoom sessions will consist of group discussions, with attendance required and cameras on (unless you have connection issues). Homework will be assigned for each lesson. Sometimes longer pieces of individual or group work will take the place of a Zoom meeting.
If you register for the course, but cannot attend the first lesson, contact Tom Heaven (email@example.com) before the lesson (preferably on or before 12th April). Failure to do so will result in your place being given to another student. Important information relating to the course is shared in the first lesson.'
The instructor holds an LLB from Cardiff University, Wales, as well as various language teaching qualifications.
